Personalized web pages are fun and easy to use. After selecting a project, you can customize your page by choosing from pre-written text about the project and then adding your own thoughts and feelings. You can even add photos to your page. Then, use the simple participant center to send emails to all of your family and friends, telling them why you’re raising money for this project. JNF’s work spans a wide variety of areas, working towards the common goal of building a prosperous future for the land of Israel and its people. Each program area has features that make it especially unique and comes with a list of suggested projects that you can do to help bring your B’nai Mitzvah Project to your community.
JNF enhances quality of life in Israel by building new communities and bolstering existing ones, especially in peripheral areas. With 90% of Israel’s population concentrated in less than 40% of the country, the northern and southern regions are largely uninhabited. JNF plays a major role in helping to develop new communities in these areas, giving families an alternative to Israel’s crowded and expensive center, and rejuvenating established towns with opportunities to combat unemployment and stagnant population growth.
In response to continual rocket attacks in the city of Sderot, JNF built the all-inclusive Sderot Indoor Recreation Center to provide the city’s 3,000 youth with a safe place to have fun, connect with friends, enjoy stimulating classes, and be children. Support is still needed to purchase new equipment and to keep the center going for all the kids of the region.
Activities: Play games or host a carnival. Invite your friends to join you. Ticket sales or sponsors will help support your project.
The growth of baseball in Israel has been hindered by a severe shortage of baseball fields. Contributing to Project: Baseball makes you a partner in supporting the campaign to provide baseball fields to those in Israel who wish to play the sport.
Activities: Host a baseball/softball game and sell tickets and refreshments to support this project. Find donors to sponsor individual players, or one of the teams, or even pledge a special amount for each hit, with additional amounts for home runs!
JNF has been at the forefront of water management and conservation in Israel for two decades, increasing the country’s total water supply by 12% and helping Israel become a world leader in water recycling. JNF’s network of over 220 recycled water reservoirs provide almost half of the water used for agriculture in Israel, saving enough freshwater to meet the needs of 4.4 million people a year.
Help fight the severe water crisis in Israel and make the Negev flourish by supporting the Essence of Life Campaign.
Activity: Make custom water bottles and sell them to support your project.
As an innovator in ecological development and a pioneer in forest creation, JNF has planted more than 240 million trees in Israel, providing luscious belts of green covering more than 250,000 acres. JNF’s parks and forests are enjoyed by millions of people each weekend and holiday. Through agricultural infrastructure development, research, and soil conservation, JNF has been able to create and extend the presence of fertile land where there was once endless desert.
Israeli firefighters are the first responders to events ranging from terrorist bombs, rocket attacks, and hazardous materials events to wildfires and car accidents. They save lives and help limit the damage to military and civilian property. You have the opportunity to Adopt A Firefighter and support their brave efforts in combating fires, and the aftermath of terrorist and rocket attacks.
Activity: Host a party for your local firefighters. Sell refreshments to raise funds for your project.
Support Forestry and green innovations.
Activities: Organize a Bike-a-thon in your area with sponsors contributing for each rider. Make environmentally friendly birdhouses from recycled materials and sell them to raise funds.
JNF is committed to the preservation of historical sites associated with Israel’s rebirth and to ensuring that the stories behind them are properly documented and retold for generations to come. Heritage site development enables JNF to share the past, the important events, the places, the struggles and the fight for Israel’s independence with Israelis and tourists alike.
The B’nai Mitzvah Remembrance Wall allows B’nai Mitzvah children to link their names to a child who perished in the Holocaust and continue the circle of life.
Activities: Present a speech with this message of hope at your synagogue or youth group around the time of Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. During the summer, begin an email correspondence with some of the campers at one of the JNF/KKL summer camps.
For over 100 years, JNF has sponsored research initiatives in Israel as part of its efforts to cultivate the land. To-day, with history on its side, JNF is a world leader in both technological and environmental innovation. Working with distinguished academic and scientific institutions in Israel and abroad, JNF has supported innovative solutions in the areas of solar power, water sustainability, and agricultural development.
Coral Reef Restoration actively restores reefs, which support about 25% of all marine life and act as natural breakwaters, minimizing impacts from cyclones, hurricanes, and typhoons, and form the basis for tourism and fishing industries. Over the past 20-30 years, coral reefs throughout the world have been degrading at an alarming rate. The National Institute of Oceanography in Haifa built the first mid-water floating coral nursery in the world and are sharing the concept with other countries, including Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Jamaica, and Tanzania.
JNF is dedicated to ensuring that no member of Israeli society is left behind. Through a variety of initiatives, JNF provides cutting-edge rehabilitative services, special education, and medical care for people with special needs and makes its forests, parks, picnic areas, playgrounds, nature trails, and recreation facilities “inclusive” to visitors of all ability levels.
Aleh Negev is an organization that provides children and adults with severe cognitive and physical disabilities with high-level medical and rehabilitative care to complete the building of a state-of-the-art communal Rehabilitative Village. It provides much-needed services and jobs to the area.
Activities: Make friendship bracelets and sell them to raise money for Aleh Negev or decorate and sell small teddy bears. Make a flyer or poster about Aleh Negev (information can be found at www.jnf.org/alehnegev) to explain your project. Display it at your Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration.
Therapeutic horseback riding has been widely used as a tool for improving the lives of individuals with almost any physical and/or emotional disability. JNF is raising funds for many of the riding centers in Israel, building facilities and providing scholarships for children from all nationalities and walks of life.
Activities: Host a Ride for Relief session at a local stable, or sell tiny toy horses for $2 each. Volunteer at a local therapeutic riding facility.
LOTEM — Making Nature Accessible is a national organization in Israel that offers nature activities to people with special needs through accessible hikes and nature activities, giving Israelis the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful land of Israel.
Activities: Plan a Special Clean Up Day which will make a park or community space better or organize a Special Hike to help children with special needs. Registration fees and proceeds from selling snacks can be used to support LOTEM.
