Hello, I’m Liran Dor and I am happy to say that I have recently been selected as an Impact Fellow and awarded a scholarship to study abroad at the Alexander Muss High School in Israel (AMHSI). The main goals of the Impact Fellowship combined with AMHSI are to educate Jewish youth about Jewish and Israeli history, strengthen their connection to Israel and the Jewish people and to develop confident future Jewish leaders. This 8 week program is funded by the Jewish National Fund (JNF), a non profit organization.
“JNF began in 1901 as a dream and vision to reestablish a homeland in Israel for Jewish people everywhere” (https://www.jnf.org/menu-2/why-jnf). Today they continue to work to improve life in Israel and world wide by supporting technologies and agricultural innovations that help
everyone. JNF “greens the desert”, creates communities, preserves heritage sites and supports Israeli charities among many other goals. They also focus on connecting Jews from all over the world to Israel by funding and supporting programs like the one I will participate in.
During this program my day will be split into three portions:
1: Learning about Jewish and Israeli history (including going on tiyulim, trips, all over Israel)
2: Preparing ourselves for public speaking to educate others about the program and Israel when we get
3: Catching up on most of my school work from home.
I will admit that when my mother first raised the idea of participating in AMHSI I was pretty scared because I had never been away from home and my family for so long. However, once I learned about the leadership skills I’d gain and the hands on history I’d have an opportunity to learn about like never before I understood what amazing opportunity it would be for me and applied.
So where would your money go? About half the money donated will be going to fund my travels to and from Israel (my scholarship only applies to the actual program and I am responsible for raising the rest). The other half will be going to a variety of different charities in Israel that are run or supported by the JNF. If you would like to see what kind of charities I’m talking about, check out the JNF website: https://www.jnf.org/menu-2/our-work.
Traveling and studying abroad is a rare experience for a highschooler and it is a real privilege for me to be able to go.
Thank you for reading and supporting my efforts. By doing so you are supporting charitable work in Israel and are also funding the creation of a new Jewish leader!
