Painting: Old Motza, Seven Species Mosaic by Barbara Israel Bortniker
Painting: Old Motza, Seven Species Mosaic by Barbara Israel Bortniker

This painting was started on-location at Motza, a small community just outside of Jerusalem off the main highway, with deep biblical and archeological significance. In modern history, it was the site of the first Jewish agricultural colony in the mid-1800’s.

In the artist’s words, "On the day I was there, a Bar Mitzvah was being celebrated, Israeli style, of course. It was a real party, with laughter, singing, clapping, candies thrown all over, and lots of friends and family. I was happy to be able to sit in the corner of the courtyard, out of the way and undisturbed. I set up my easel and canvas, and began painting directly "alla prima" with acrylic paint. The sunlight radiated off the pale yellow stones, and illuminated the colorful stained glass in the doors."

Now, you can bring this beautiful painting to your home printed on 24" x 36" archival, 100% rag watercolor paper, numbered and hand-signed by the artist. Your purchase will help support Jewish National Funds vital work. Bring this sparkling image of beautiful Israel into your home, or give it as a very special gift that will be treasured for a lifetime.
